FAQ

How fast is the uScope MXII?

We are often asked how fast the uScope scanner can scan a slide. The following video shows how long it takes to scan a coverslipe with size of around 15x15mm and process the images into a single, large deep zoom image. Note that portions of this video playback faster than reality in an effort to reduce the time required to demonstrate the actual scan speed. As you can see in the video, scanning a 15x15mm area using the 20x obj lens requires 2,775 individual images which takes 6minutes 20 seconds and creating the deep zoom requires 3 minutes, i.e total of 9:20 minutes  for 2,775 images /15x15mm. In other words you can expect around 2.49 seconds per 1mmx1mm  which requires 12 images of 3×4 tile.

Does the uScope MXII have a manual or motion-control stage?

The uScope MX is an automated digital microscope and includes a motion-control stage. The uScope Navigator software automatically moves to your area of interest to collect images or to scan tile sets.

What resolution is the uScope MXII?
The uScope MX is wavelength-limited. Image resolution is governed by the wavelength of the visible light utilized. Objects as small as 0.5 microns can be resolved.

Is the uScope MXII a whole slide scanner?
The uScope MXII is not considered to be a whole slide scanner but is suitable for scanning large areas of your slide.

uScopeMXII-20 Digital Microscope 20x (0.4NA) Objective

The uScopeMXII-20 digital microscope comes with a 20x/0.4NA 160mm conjugate objective. This model is suited to applications where very high depth of field is required. The uScopeMXII-20 has a wider depth of field than higher power models of the uScopeMXII. So, tissue samples and smears can be thicker with more of the image in focus. This unit is able to produce very high-quality images while browsing or scanning an area of interest.

Because of its size, the uScopeMXII is highly portable. The industry-standard USB interface makes it easy to plug in and start capturing images at work or on the road. It easily interfaces with standard desktop or laptop PCs and allows you to view and capture slide images in a wide variety of environments.

I am interested in getting a personal economical whole slide imager/software. I use HE Slides for pathology diagnosis and mainly need 40x magnification. I need 40x to see the detail of nuclei. I scan around 1-5 slides per day. I saw there are options to use current microscope. My Budget range is couple of thousands. Which one do you suggest?

If you like to use single lens always, you can choose uScope MX-40 Slide Scanner. If you need to switch between lenses, back and forth, then try BUM400A Motorized Microscopy System. Both options are around $10k. Otherwise, BioStitch-500 Live Image Stitching – Digital Slide Scanning Software with Free Camera can be another option. Among the list, Biostitch will be the lowest price option since you already have the scope. Working with 40x requires gentle motion in X or Y direction if you choose BioStitch series.
